TalkTastic App Microphone Issue: KVM Switch Troubleshooting Guide

Bug Report: Microphone Recognition Issue with TalkTastic App Summary: The TalkTastic app fails to recognize the microphone when switching between computers using a KVM switch or after locking and unlocking the computer. This issue requires restarting the app, which sometimes becomes unresponsive and needs to be force quit. Environment:

  1. 1.

    Devices: Personal and work MacBook Pros

  2. 2.

    Operating System: macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224)

  3. 3.

    TalkTastic App Version: v0.8.19

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. 1.

    Connect both MacBook Pros to a KVM switch.

  2. 2.

    Open the TalkTastic app on one MacBook.

  3. 3.

    Switch to the other MacBook using the KVM switch.

  4. 4.

    Switch back to the original MacBook.

  5. 5.

    Attempt to use the microphone in the TalkTastic app by pressing F5 to record a note.

Expected Result: The TalkTastic app should recognize the microphone and allow recording without any issues. Actual Result: The app does not recognize the microphone, preventing recording. Restarting the app is required, and it sometimes becomes unresponsive, necessitating a force quit via Activity Monitor. Follow-up question: Is there a way for me to roll back to a previous version? The latest one is causing me too much trouble 😢

    Hmm. I've never heard of a KVM switch before, so we definitely didn't test one. Sorry you're having those problems. We'll investigate. We're already planning on shipping a new version that iterates on how we handle microphone settings. Apologies for the hassle! What mic are you actually using? Is it just the built-in MacBook mic, or do you have some external microphone hooked up? Have you added all the mics you're using to TalkTastic? We rolled out a whitelisting feature, but we kinda dropped the ball on letting everyone know about it.

    Thanks for following up Matt Mireles. I am using either my headphone's microphone (Bose Quietcomfort), connected via bluetooth, or my Blue Yeti microphone, connected by USB via the KVM. I have added all of the mics I'm using to TalkTastic. Let me know if you need any other information Matt Mireles! In the meantime, is there a way for me to roll back to a previous version? The latest one is causing me too much trouble
