Bailey Cook Yes, this is the order of the roadmap. I want to hold off on making specific promises about the paid plans until I figure out how accurate the new on-device speech-to-text models are gonna be and understand the cost implications. The ultimate goal is to drive transcription costs to $0 using fast, personalized local models that can run on your device. While we're still working out the details, my vision is to offer transcription for free, then charge for premium features like rewrites, advanced customization, and enhanced data privacy options that business / power users will really value. We want to make the core transcription service widely accessible to all. I believe the transcription market is headed toward commoditization, and I'd rather have us lead that shift than be disrupted by it. We leading the charge by training our own AI models, delivering faster, better, and cheaper transcription on one hand, while simultaneously delivering with more powerful "holy shit – is this telepathy?!" rewrites on the other.

Is the idea to allow creating a dictionary of words? Because I miss this the 2nd most since switching from Wispr Flow to TalkTastic.

I also am switching from Wispr to TT, however didn't find the personalization all that important. The magical moment for me today was TT realizing what I was trying to create through speech and then creating that (a design brief). In general, the question for TT is how can it, using 2010 parlance, automagically gather work and personal context to create what I want, in my style without input at all.

It’s interesting to consider having another option here - whether I want to generate a prompt using TalkTastic or simply transcribe what I’m saying out loud as a message. I’ve noticed that when I’m dictating a prompt for Claude or ChatGPT, TalkTastic sometimes processes the prompt and provides an answer directly within the app. While this might be unintended functionality, it’s actually a helpful shortcut that eliminates extra steps. It could be worth exploring this as an intentional feature - maybe through a dedicated shortcut or shift command that lets users directly speak prompts to the AI.

Bailey Cook I've been thinking about a post-Paid launch feature where even when you're not in a text field, you could hit the shortcut to create a voice note OR simultaneously query ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google - basically a multi-GPT query interface. We could leverage our personalization algorithm (the same core tech we're developing for Choose For Me 2.0) to optimize which GPT to call based on your unique preferences. My personal motivation here is that I often want to compare responses across different LLMs, but it's a pain in the ass to query them individually. I've got a really cool UI concepts for this, but it's definitely something we'd roll out after launching the paid version.

Could we add more keyboard shortcuts to this as well? I’d want options to either post the original transcript with minimal edits or paste in the fully rewritten version. So I can see both in the top right hand corner and make that decision myself?

I’d like to understand more about the transcript handling process - specifically how flexible the system is when automatically pasting and potentially overwriting text. What’s happening on the backend when a rewrite decision is made? Are we deleting the original paste or adding a new one alongside it? It sometimes feels a bit clunky currently, and I think more transparency around what users should expect to happen at each step would be helpful. A simple keyboard shortcut even to go “nah, pick the other one” would be helpful?

For Choose for Me 2.0, I'm thinking we make the UI adaptive. When TT is highly confident you want a transcript, you just get the transcript. When TT is confident you want a rewrite, you get that instead. And when we're not sure, we'll show you both options. Over time the system would learn your preferences and get really good at predicting what you want based on your particular context and content.

No, it's great - I love it! I'm personally allergic to complexity and multiple shortcuts. Maybe I'm too allergic, but I believe you should just have something that "just works" intuitively. It should be really good at understanding what you want. You can guide it, but I know once we add a shortcut or control, we're never going to remove it.

It’s one of those things that power users can integrate into their workflow that makes something like this become sticky.

1. Introduce a Shortcut for Copying the Alternative Output • New Shortcut: Implement a keyboard shortcut (e.g., Ctrl + Shift + C on Windows or Cmd + Shift + C on macOS) that, when pressed, copies the alternative output to the clipboard. • Immediate Access: This allows users to quickly access the non-selected text without needing to move the mouse up to the top and click copy on the other option. 2. Usage Scenario 1. Initiate Voice Note: The user starts a voice note as usual. 2. Automatic Insertion: TalkTastic inserts the selected output (transcript or ghostwritten text) at the cursor position. 3. Copy Alternative Output: If the user wants the alternative version, they press the new shortcut. 4. Paste Alternative Output: The alternative text is now in the clipboard, ready to be pasted using the standard paste command (Ctrl + V or Cmd + V).

Because that original idea is just for when the “Choose for Me’ is selected. It’s more of a manual override. You could even use that and mark it as reinforcement training for the algo too.

Here’s another workflow quirk I’ve noticed - and I know this is super edge-case - but I frequently have something copied to my clipboard that I’m planning to paste into an email. When I finish recording in TalkTastic and it automatically copies the output, I’ll instinctively try to paste my original clipboard content and accidentally end up with a double paste of the TalkTastic output instead. Not sure if there’s an elegant fix for this, but wanted to flag it as something that trips me up.

Bailey Cook that’s not an edge case at all I think. I frequently bump against this issue too. TT clipboard overwriting stuff I’ve already copied.

Re paid-plans - would love the option of a lifetime one-off payment option tier for the beta test users 🙂 or failing that - option to pay in advance on annual basis as well as monthly. Feature roadmap looks great, hope we can afford to continue to support once the paid tiers go live!
