Innovative Tech: Using TalkTastic for Hands-Free Typing After Surgery

·
·

Good evening, I've been in public education since 1990, and tech has always been my side passion. When I needed a total shoulder replacement, I looked for a way to "type" with my mouth. TalkTastic was the answer. Unfortunately, I'm currently stuck in a classroom as my district is short two teachers (If you are looking for an elementary, grade 4/5 or a middle school, grade 7/8 teaching position in Happy Camp California, message me) so I don't get to use the tool as much as I'd like. I'm looking forward to digging into TalkTastic once things clear up here, as I find it to be a powerful blend of AI and dictation.

Happy Camp - wow, haven't heard that name in ages! Last time I was there, I was fighting fire for the Forest Service in the Klamath National Forest up in Northern California's coastal region. That's awesome. I'm stoked to have you here in the TalkTastic community! I'd love to help you get even more value out of TalkTastic. Really great to hear from you and excited to have you as part of our community. 🙌

Wow, it's rare to find someone who knows Happy Camp California - most people draw a blank when I mention it. Really cool that you've been there! Speaking of which, I'm running into an interesting issue with TalkTastic. I use my MacBook Air both open and closed - when it's closed, I have it hooked up through a hub to my external monitor with a Logitech camera and mic setup. TalkTastic seems to have trouble switching automatically between these configurations. Just caught this happening tonight.

What do you say, trouble switching to these configurations? What's the hard part? Is it the microphone management component? This is something we're very actively working on.

I have TalkTastic set to auto-detect, but the last time I used TalkTastic while in clamshell mode, TalkTastic did not pick up the Logitech microphone. I can try again on Tuesday when I'm in my office to see what happens, as it has correctly selected the MacBook Air microphone.
